The city of Gandhinagar is very popular among tourists, due to the many important locations present in the place. Gandhinagar, named after Mahatma Gandhi. In 1960 when the old Bombay State was partitioned into Maharashtra and Gujarat, the city of Bombay went to Maharashtra. It was then decided to construct a new capital for Gujarat. Thus came into being Gandhinagar, the second planned city in India after Chandigarh. In the capital, you can find politicians’ houses, wide boulevards and a sense of order that might prove shocking to travelers who have spent a significant amount of time on the subcontinent. The Akshardham temple in the city of Gandhinagar is one of the biggest temples in India, and it is a major pilgrim destination that many people swarm to. This temple in Gandhinagar is very similar to its counterpart, the other Akshardham temple in New Delhi, and this temple was built by the same organization. There are 30 sectors around the central government complex. Each sector having its own shopping centre, health centre, schools and community centre. If you also plan on visiting Ahmedabad, you can easily visit Gandhinagar on a day trip to save on costs. Not being a main tourist center, the city’s accommodation options are scant and dining venues tend to be more expensive since they are geared toward the city’s wealthy residents. If you want to bring along a picnic lunch instead of eating out, a peaceful place to sit and eat in Gandhingar is Sarita Udyan Park, overlooking the Sabarmati River.
